7th Annual “Day on the Hill” will highlight “True Islam” grassroots campaign
Delegates from 75 chapters of America’s oldest Muslim organization are expected to meet with several hundred U.S. Congressional offices in Washington D.C. The annual day of advocacy this year will focus on efforts to combat violent extremism, protect vulnerable religious minorities and empower American Muslims. Congressmen Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Pete Aguilar (D-CA) will address the attendees in the morning to launch this annual event.
A prominent feature of the day of advocacy will be the “True Islam” grassroots campaign to combat the perverse ideology of extremists and better protect national security. The acclaimed “True Islam” campaign has received over 13,000 individual endorsements, including many federal and state lawmakers, city officials, members of law enforcement, and faith-based communities. The #MuslimAlly hashtag promotes awareness on various social media platforms to combat ignorance.
Delegates will also brief U.S. Congressional offices about the newly launched Ahmadiyya Muslim Congressional Caucus for the 115th Congress, Co-Chaired by U.S. Congressional Representatives Peter King (R-NY) and Jackie Speier (D-CA). The Caucus aims to educate members of Congress about the repression of religious minorities worldwide (especially in South Asia and the Middle East), including Ahmadi Muslims, Christians and other persecuted communities.
