Our Story

Ahmadi Muslims have been part of Oshkosh since 1986. In 2010 the community opened Qamar Mosque on North Eagle Street.

Ahmadi Muslims have called Oshkosh home since 1986. For about two decades the community prayed and met in members’ homes and basements, and for a time shared space with the First Congregational Church, a friendship the community still remembers with gratitude.

A mosque of our own

In 2010 the community asked the city for permission to turn a former funeral home at 300 North Eagle Street into a mosque and community center. Some neighbors raised concerns about traffic and prayer times; the Common Council heard them and approved the permit unanimously.

The building opened as Masjid Qamar, Qamar Mosque, with about 100 members. At the time, the community made the city a promise: the mosque would always be an open door to anyone who needed it.

Today

Qamar Mosque is the center of Jama’at life in Oshkosh and the Fox Valley: daily prayers and Friday prayers, Tahir Academy classes for children, meetings of Lajna Ima’illah, Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya and Majlis Ansarullah, and events open to the whole city. Everyone is welcome to visit.
