Nation’s Oldest and Largest Muslim Organization condemns rise in violence against Sikhs

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA offers its condolences to the Sikh American community for the increasing violence and extremism they are facing on account of their faith and Punjab/South Asian appearance. Most recently on January 1, 2016 a Sikh man, 68-year-old Gurcharan Singh Gill, was stabbed to death in Fresno, California. Given the recent backlash against religious minorities, the Fresno police have not ruled out the possibility of a hate crime. This brutal murder followed another unprovoked and vicious attack on a Sikh man, 68-year-old Amrik Singh Bal, on December 26, 2015, which is being actively investigated as a hate crime. Since 9/11, Sikh Americans have tragically experienced increasing harassment and violence at the hands of bigots and anti -Muslim extremists.

“This violence and senseless loss of life is tragic and condemnable,” said Dr. Nasim Rehmatullah, Senior Vice President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, “We extend our condolences to the Sikh Community and the families of all who have been killed and harmed.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA stands in solidarity with the Sikh Community, and encourages all Americans to stand united against extremism.
