Cites such an event as critical to humanity’s progress

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of New York will host an event titled, “Religion, Freedom and Peace” to present true Islam. The fundamental teachings of Islam, which are rooted in peace, coexistence, humility and personal betterment have been ignored due to misconceptions and misunderstandings about Islam’s teachings.

“As Muslims dedicated to peace and understanding, these elements of coexistence are crucial to humanity’s success,” said Nazir Ayaz, President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Queens. “This is a critical time for us to understand each other so we can progress together.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community seeks to dispel the misconceptions attributed to Islam through rational discourse and dialogue and invites the public to attend this event. Please RSVP: (718) 479-3345.

This reality must change because you -- and all girls -- deserve better.

Polls show that most Americans have not met a Muslim in their lives. Most don't understand Islamic teachings either. Making a blanket statement about Islam based on the distorted depiction of a few so-called Muslims and ignoring the vast majority of law-abiding and peaceful Muslims is an intellectual fallacy. Here are five points every American needs to know about the Islamic teachings.

Regarding the Sept. 17 news article “Outcry after Muslim teen is detained over homemade clock”: The possibility of arrest and humiliation, as in the case of high school student Ahmed Mohamed for inventing a clock, has unfortunately become the new normal for the millions of Muslims in the country. It is true that we live in an era of heightened security, but to subject a 14-year-old child to such trauma when he told his engineering teacher about his invention demonstrates that the ongoing Islamophobia is spreading like wildfire in the country.
