Emergency Preparedness Stocking
A checklist of what every household should keep at home and in a portable kit: about six weeks of essentials.
Being ready for an emergency is part of caring for your family. The national Umoor-e-Aama office has prepared a two-page checklist of what to keep at home and what to pack in a portable kit, with about six weeks of supplies as the goal.
What the checklist covers
- Food essentials: rice, flour, lentils and other grains, cooking oil and spices, canned food, sugar, energy bars and 2 liters of drinking water per person per day.
- Cooking and supplies: a backup stove and fuel (stored safely outside the house), disposable plates and basic cooking tools.
- Personal care and health: hygiene supplies, a first aid kit and common medicines, plus prescriptions, glasses and baby supplies where needed.
- Tools, light and communication: flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, a hand-powered radio, basic tools and copies of important documents.
- Shelter: a tent, tarps, warm sleeping bags and thermal blankets.
Tick off each item as you go. A dot in the list means the item is needed at home or in the portable kit.
