Responsibilities of Local Publication Secretaries

How chapter publications secretaries carry out each duty: printing, periodicals, bookstores, libraries, the press and local history.

The duties of the National Secretary Isha’at (rules 350 to 361) are followed up and carried out at chapter level by the chapter or regional Secretary Isha’at. This is how, duty by duty.

Printing and reprints (350)

Please try not to print or reprint books and literature locally; ask the national department first. If you do print something locally, add the month and year of printing, the number of copies and the name of your Jama’at, and send a copy to the national department.

Periodicals (351)

  • Encourage members to subscribe to The Muslim Sunrise, for themselves, libraries, friends and relatives, and report the results in your monthly report.
  • Make sure members receive the Gazette / Al-Nur and Al-Hilal (free for every member) and that their addresses are correct.
  • Send local news to the Gazette / Al-Nur.
  • If your chapter publishes a newsletter, send a copy to the national department and post it on your chapter page on www.ahmadiyya.us.

Book depot (352)

Refer members to amibookstore.us for books. A local bookstore is welcome but not required. If your chapter has one, report each month: who runs it, how often it opened, books and copies of the Holy Qur’an sold, and total sales.

Literature against Islam (353)

Watch your area, and your neighbouring chapters’ areas, for anything published against Islam and Ahmadiyyat, and report it to the national department right away. Ask members who read local papers regularly to help. Prepare a local response too, with guidance from your regional missionary: a local response is often the most effective.

Articles in the press (354, 355)

Encourage members to write articles and letters in support of Islam for local papers, and send copies to the national department. Send the names and contact details of members who write or translate, so the department can call on them.

Translation (356)

Members who can translate Jama’at literature into other languages are always needed. Please send their names to the department.

Libraries and reading rooms (357, 358)

Every chapter with its own mosque or mission house should have a library. A list of the books every library should have is available from the department: mark the ones you have and order the rest from amibookstore.us. Order only if you have shelves to display them. See Setting Up a Chapter Library.

New books (359)

Before anyone in your chapter publishes a book about the Jama’at, it needs approval from Wakilut-Tasnif, Tahrik Jadid. Send requests through the national department, which relays them to London after review by the book review committee.

Local history (360, 361)

Help preserve your chapter’s history: send news and pictures of local events, births, marriages and deaths to the Gazette / Al-Nur, and keep your newsletters on your chapter page.
